In the small community of Pau D’Arco, located in Barra, Bahia, a new chapter is unfolding for the Associação de Produtoras do Pau D’Arco — the Women Producers Association.
Led by Gleise Melo, Vice President of SPR Barra and Director of Sustainability at Peirot Agronegócios, the group held a strategic community meeting to initiate a collective diagnosis. The goal? Identify the main challenges and bottlenecks faced by these hardworking women who cultivate vegetables in a shared space under tough structural and managerial conditions.
This women-led association currently includes 37 members, united by a vision: to strengthen local food production, support one another, and seek sustainable, long-term improvements in quality of life and working conditions. Even more impressive? All production is organic, grown with care and respect for the land.

This initiative emerged directly from the Barra Agro Show — during the Mulheres no Agro (Women in Agriculture) program — where the voices of female agricultural workers took center stage and brought vital issues to light.
During the recent meeting, the group developed a strategic roadmap to guide upcoming initiatives that will strengthen the association’s capacity and transform the project into a thriving, sustainable business. It’s a clear mission: build a future rooted in organic values, social impact, and economic resilience.
“We’re just at the beginning of this journey. There will be many challenges ahead, but we believe that together we can pave the way for success — without losing sight of our commitment to sustainability and rural life,” emphasized Gleise Melo.
The message is clear: collaboration builds change. The meeting was also a call to action for partners and supporters who want to join forces, contribute their knowledge or resources, and help amplify the impact of this powerful grassroots initiative.
Peirot Agronegócios and SPR Barra remain steadfast in their mission — to create sustainable growth, empower local producers, and champion innovative practices that will inspire the next generation of agribusiness.
